Tonight a group from my Children's Literature course went to Homerton's annual Harry Potter Formal Hall dinner. Decorations lined the hall with signs pointing directions to the Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley and Dobby greeted us as we entered the Great Hall. Several students were playing the main Harry Potter melody on a xylophone as other students were being sorted into their house (Girton, Homerton, Sewlyn, or St. John's) by the talking sorting hat.

The master started off the candlelit dinner with a prayer and then the feast began. Roasted pumpkin soup was served followed by asparagus and tomato crepes with potatoes, carrots, and red cabbage as sides, and finally a chocolate mousse. The food was superb and the conversation even better. During the course of the dinner we had a couple of feathery visitors...that's right, owls. There were owls flying around the Great Hall. I had heard there were owls last year, but I didn't really expect them to have them there again. It was quite a treat.

Afterwards my fellow scholars and I stuck around to take some pictures with the various banners that draped along the back on the hall.
