Day One: Elo, Emily, Sam and I began our 6 day roadtrip at 8am Saturday morning. We decided to break up the driving by stopping in San Luis Obispo for lunch before making our way to Big Sur. SLO was absolutely beautiful and I got the chance to visit my bestie Bree. Breeana gave us a tour of downtown including Gum Alley and a drive around tour of her school. On our way back to her house we stopped at the South Hills that are at the end of her street. These hills can be seen in the movie Sound of Music. After saying our goodbyes (can't wait to be reunited with my bestie again in a few weeks) we continued to Big Sur. Though we almost didn't make it. We ran out of gas and were driving on empty for about 25 miles. We rounded one of the bends and discovered a lodge that had one gas pump. I can't even tell you how excited we were. We finally made it to Big Sur Lodge, had dinner and played games while we roasted s'mores over our fireplace that was in our room.
Day Two: Our lodge was in the middle of Pfeiffer State Park so we started our morning with a hike to Pfeiffer Falls and Valley View. The Redwoods were tall and beautiful and all of the scenery was so green. We worked up quite and appetite so we stopped for lunch at a cafe that overlooked the ocean. Then we made our way to San Jose to stay with the Sisson family. We had a quiet and relaxing evening around the dinner table watching the Oscars.
Day Three: After saying goodbye to the Sisson's we crossed the Golden Gate bridge and entered San Francisco. We walked around Fisherman's Wharf and played at the old arcade that is featured in the Disney movie, The Princess Diaries. We then met up with my cousin Sarah and had lunch at Boudin's. After lunch we did all the tourist-y things: Ferry Building, Lombard Street, Hayes/Ashbury. We ended our day at our gaudy, Victorian-esk hotel Knob Hill.
Day Four: We woke up and started this morning with a missing car. That's right. Our car was missing. I had walked down to put more money in the meter but couldn't find it. Sam went down to make sure that I wasn't crazy and confirmed that the car was missing. We told the receptionist and he knew exactly where it was, the San Francisco Auto Return. Sam and I had to take a taxi and $500 dollars later we got our car back. Minor Mishap. We also stopped by the Japanese Tea Gardens for some tea and mochi before going to Sonoma. We made our way to Sonoma to visit the wonderful, the fabulous, Kyle Bailey. After dropping off our bags we stopped by The Cheese Factory to grab some sandwiches before making our way to three different vineyards. When the wine tasting was over we went back to Kyle's house to have dinner with his family. We ended the evening with a game of Catchphrase and Elo, Emily, Sam and I all snuggled up in the bed while watching The King's Speech.
Day Five: We made our way back to San Francisco and had lunch at The Slanted Door, recommended by Kyle and my cousin Sarah. We had a few more tourist-y things to do: Painted Ladies (the houses from Full House), Ghirardelli Square and Castro Square. We then made our way back to San Jose.
Day Six: Before making our way back to Malibu we stopped in Santa Cruz. We drove around the cute, beachy town and stopped at Verve, the coffee shop that my friend Natalie works at. After getting our caffeine kick we continued our way down the coast, down the 1 and made it home.
