save it for a rainy day

With Lent term coming to a close, I decided to reward myself a little early by giving myself the day off. I know, I know, probably not the best time to do that since I still have a lot of editing to do, but sometimes you just have to recharge. The way I do that is going to London for the day.

My friend Dawn, who is also frivolously working on Essay # 2, decided she needed a break as well and joined me on the venture to London. We began our day, roaming the stalls in Borough Market which isn't as fun on a cold, rainy day. Nevertheless we still had a great time and everything smelled so delicious it was hard to make a decision about where to eat, but in the end I settled on a vegan burger from The Veggie Table. Next stop: a fresh-made chocolate fudge brownie for dessert and of course we had to wash it done with pure hot chocolate. The hot chocolate place is a little hole in the wall with a great atmosphere. I mean, who doesn't enjoy sippin' hot cocoa while listening to the soul of James Brown?
We then made our way to the Tate Modern to observe the Roy Lichtenstein exhibit. For those who aren't familiar with his work, Roy became well-known for his comic strip-like paintings during the Pop Art movement. During his later years, he became influenced by Henri Matisse and Cubism. This artist range is far and wide, and evident in the 13 room exhibition.

Our lovely, rainy day ended at Fortnum & Mason where we met Dawn's friend Cat for high tea. Finger sandwiches, scones, assorted desserts, cakes, and tea...what more can you ask for? We took our time and spent about two hours chatting and sipping tea.

It was just the kind of day that I needed. One can never go wrong with a little art, culture, and tea. As for tomorrow...back to the grind.
